Limited Time Offer for Chatham Small Businesses

Cape Light Compact Offering No-Cost Energy Improvements

Barnstable, MA – Starting September 15th, the Cape Light Compact is opening its highly successful “Main Streets” energy efficiency initiative to small businesses in Chatham. This effort provides eligible businesses with no-cost energy efficiency upgrades. With a cold winter and higher fuel costs predicted this year, this is a very timely program.

“This initiative is specially designed to give smaller customers an easy, fast, no-cost way to reduce their electricity use,” said Peter Cocolis, Chatham Representative to Compact Board. “The upgrades reduce monthly electric bills and often have the added bonus of enhancing the comfort of the work space,” Cocolis said.

Upgrades are tailored for each business based on a free energy assessment and could include: high-performance fluorescent lamps and fixtures; compact fluorescent and light emitting diode (LED) lighting; LED exit signs and refrigeration case lights; wall or ceiling occupancy sensors; programmable thermostats; vending machine controls or water conserving fixtures. Installation is provided by the Compact’s lead vendor, RISE Engineering.

Eligible businesses in Chatham that have been pre-screened based on electric usage will receive a letter from the Compact describing this effort. Letters will be sent to 163 commercial electric customers in Chatham that use between 6,000 and 72,000 kWh of electricity annually. Businesses receiving the letter have until 4:30 p.m. on October 10th to accept the Compact’s offer to participate.

The Compact has coordinated with the Chatham Energy Committee and Selectmen to initiate the initiative in town.

The Main Streets Initiative was launched last spring in Provincetown and Oak Bluffs. So far, 93 businesses have participated in the initiative. This effort will extend to Falmouth small businesses in the coming weeks.

If you are a commercial electric customer in Chatham who has not received a letter but think you may qualify, contact Cape Light Compact at 1-800-797-6699.

The Compact also has a wide range of other commercial programs for businesses that do not qualify for the Main Streets Initiative.
