Staying Warm with Cape Light Compact Incentives

As the cold, snowy winter weather sets in, we spend much of our time seeking comfort and warmth. Often that translates into cranking up the heat and, in turn, enduring higher energy expenses. This season, Cape Light Compact is here to bring you relief from both the lower temps and higher costs with these three tips for energy-savings.

  1. Take advantage of our smart thermostat rebate.

A smart, programmable thermostat is one of the most convenient tools for creating a comfortable living space and avoiding energy waste from heating and cooling. Through a 24/7 Wi-Fi connection, a smart thermostat allows you to easily monitor your energy use and adjust your heating and cooling settings. You can set your desired temperature for different times of the day based on your schedule, for instance by lowering the setpoint when you’re sleeping or away at work. Because this technology is Wi-Fi enabled, you also have the benefit of being able to adjust your settings remotely, for instance through your smartphone or tablet. Some models can even be voice-activated and paired with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple’s Siri.

Year-round, the Compact offers a rebate of up to $100 on select smart thermostats. You can make a purchase from your local retailer and submit a rebate online or via mail, or you can receive an instant rebate by making a purchase through the Mass Save® online store.

  1. Finance major upgrades with the zero-interest Mass Save® HEAT loan.

To truly optimize your home’s comfort and efficiency, you often need to make home improvements that can be costly. During a no-cost home energy assessment, we’ll help you identify the best-suited opportunities for your home. If significant home upgrades are recommended, it’s a great idea to consider the Mass Save® HEAT Loan.

This special financing tool – which the Compact helps make possible as your local Sponsor for Mass Save® – provides a zero-interest loan of up to $25,000 with terms of up to 7 years. Sample services that are eligible for this loan include updating your heating system, installing a heat pump, upgrading your water heater, and bolstering your insulation.

How do you take advantage of this offer? During the home energy assessment, we’ll provide you with a HEAT Loan Intake Form. Upon submitting your intake form and quote(s) through our online portal, RISE Engineering will issue a HEAT Loan Authorization Form. Once you’ve received this, you’ll have all the necessary materials to officially apply for the loan through one of our approved lending institutions. We’ve included a step-by-step application process on our website.

  1. Make sure your fireplace is a source of warmth – not chilly drafts!

The idea of sitting by the fireplace typically conjures up the sentiment of being cozy and warm. However, your fireplace can also be a source of draftiness and odors. When a fire isn’t burning, you typically will use the metal chimney damper to prevent cold air from traveling into your home. However, it’s easy for this damper to wear out over time and for cold air to still seep through.

Chimney balloons offer a simple solution. By inflating a chimney balloon about a foot into the chimney, you provide a tight air seal that keeps the warm air in your home and keeps cold air, debris, and odors out. When it’s time to light a fire, it’s easy to remove the balloon by simply opening the valve and allowing it to deflate. If you decide to purchase a chimney balloon, make sure to take advantage of the Compact’s $35 rebate.

These are just a few of the ways the Compact is here to help you prepare for the colder weather. You can learn more about our full suite of energy efficiency services by visiting CapeLightCompact.org.
