Mass Save® HONORS TWELVE MASSACHUSETTS BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS FOR SAVING ENERGY AND MONEY

Boston, MA (November 11, 2010)—At an exclusive event yesterday at Fenway Park, Mass Save honored twelve Massachusetts companies at the 2010 MassSavers Awards. The twelve businesses and industry professionals were honored for completing or undertaking energy efficiency improvements this year with the help of programs from Mass Save or for supporting energy efficiency initiatives through Mass Save – an initiative sponsored by Massachusetts’ gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers.

Earlier this fall, Mass Save Sponsors nominated twenty-three mid to large size businesses, municipal customers, or industry partners for their efforts as MassSavers. The nominees’ efforts were evaluated using specific criteria based on energy efficiency measures undertaken, competitive quantifiable energy and monetary savings, and even energy efficiency education initiatives undertaken. Mass Save is happy to announce that the following businesses are recipients of the 2010 MassSavers Award:

Cape Air
Cape Air, now in its 21st year, is one of the largest independent regional airlines in the United States, annually flying over 610,000 passengers to destinations around the world. Nominated by Cape Light Compact, Cape Air realized a 25% reduction in electricity use at its operations center in Hyannis and is currently implementing a major building envelope upgrade which will reduce the energy consumed to heat and cool the facility by 25%. Cape Air has also installed a new solar PV system on the roof, with a projected output of 290,000 kWh and has distributed 3 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to each of its 850 employees saving an additional 290,000 kWh per year.

RISE Engineering
RISE Engineering, a division of Thielsch Engineering, Inc., has been synonymous with leading edge efficiency strategies for over three decades. RISE has earned regional and national recognition for innovative energy services resulting in over $450 million of improvements to all types of existing buildings in New England and New York. Nominated by Cape Light Compact, RISE offers turnkey services to customers by leveraging their leading-edge reduction strategies with their years of experience – covering all bases from sending marketing materials, to performing audits, to making recommendations, and implementing measures. RISE Engineering is a major contributor to the comprehensive and personal service that Cape Light Compact delivers to its business customers.

These award winners, along with their guests, Sponsors from Mass Save, and other industry professionals received a behind-the-scenes tour of Fenway Park and a special meet-and-greet with Joe Castiglione, the voice of Red Sox Radio Network, WEEI. Phil Giudice, Commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, addressed the award winners along with Penni McLean-Conner, Vice President of Customer Care for NSTAR Electric& Gas Corp. The awards ceremony was presided over by Ed White, Vice President of Energy Products for National Grid.

Mass Save is aiming to meet a goal of saving close to 2.5 million mega-watt hours of electricity and 45 million therms of natural gas over the next three years. This aggressive objective would ultimately net $4 billion in savings for its participating residential and business customers. “We will continue to harness the strength of the Mass Save initiative to make Massachusetts an energy efficiency leader year in and year out,” said Penni McLean-Conner, Vice President of Customer Care for NSTAR.
