Customers making below 80% of the state median income may be eligible for income-qualified offers for installing Heat Pumps and weatherization.

How the Electric Heating & Cooling Rebate Program Works:

Step 1: Contact your Mass Save Participating Heat Pump Installer. Rebates and financing are only available for installations completed by a Heat Pump Installer Network (HPIN) Contractor and for system on the Mass Save Qualified Product List.

Step 2: Have your contractor review the Heat Pump Rebate Application with you. Our whole home heat pump rebates require verification that the home has been sufficiently weatherized to qualify. Start this process early to ensure you have time to complete the required insulation and air-sealing. Customers who are pursuing partial home rebates can receive a $500 bonus for completing weatherization through Cape Light Compact prior to a Heat Pump install. Call 1-800-797-6699 to get started.

Step 3: When the work is completed by an HPIN contractor, fill out and submit the applicable rebate form along with a dated receipt and contractor invoice showing the make, model, and date of installation, and any additional required information as noted on the application. Whole home rebate applications must include the Whole Home Verification Form

Our rebate amounts fall into two categories:

Whole-Home Rebates: We offer rebates to customers who currently heat with oil, propane, and electric resistance to install new heat pumps for whole-home heating and cooling, replacing the existing system. (Natural Gas customers can access heat pump rebates through National Grid).

To qualify for rebates on whole-home heat pumps, the existing system must be disabled and heat pumps must be the sole form of heat for the home. Customers must submit a completed Whole-Home Heat Pump Verification form with their rebate form. Additionally, to qualify, customers must complete all weatherization recommendations prior to heat pump installation and use a Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network Contractor. Sufficient weatherization can be demonstrated by satisfying at least one of the following requirements: (A) home was built during or after 2000, (B) Home Energy Assessment report indicates less than $1,000 worth of weatherization recommended, or (C) weatherization recommendations made during or after 2013 have been completed.

Heat pumps installed for whole-home heating and cooling that do not meet the weatherization requirement may be eligible for partial-home rebate amounts. Please note, this rebate is only available to residences that are occupied full-time during the winter heating season. Equipment must be installed in individually metered 1-4 unit buildings or townhouses to receive the whole-home rebate.

Partial-Home/Supplemental Rebates: We offer rebates based on equipment size (tonnage) to customers who install heat pumps to supplement an existing oil, propane, or electric resistance heating system. To qualify for rebates on supplemental (or partial-home) heat pumps, integrated controls must be installed in homes with oil or propane backup. (Natural Gas customers can access rebates through National Grid). The home must be occupied full-time during the winter heating season to be eligible. Customers who complete weatherization recommendations made during an energy assessment prior to a partial home heat pump installation may be eligible for a $500 bonus. Ask your energy specialist for more details.

The Compact offers rebates on three different types of Heat Pumps. Click the equipment below to jump to that section of the webpage.

Interested in Financing Your New Equipment?

The Sponsors of Mass Save are buying down interest rates to make energy efficiency more affordable for Massachusetts residents. With our HEAT Loan, you could qualify for a loan of up to $50,000 toward qualified energy-efficient home improvements with terms up to seven years, depending on your Sponsor and the loan provider. Heat pumps must be installed by a Heat Pump Installer Network contractor in order to be eligible for rebates and HEAT loan financing.
