Rebates and Funding Make Energy Efficiency

Affordable for All Residents

Barnstable, MA – Frigid winter weather and high electricity costs underscore the benefits of increased comfort and cost savings that can be achieved through energy efficiency and weatherization. Cape Light Compact is reaching out to households who may think that improvements to make their home more energy efficient are beyond their means.

“Many people don’t realize that the Cape Light Compact offers a range of energy efficiency incentives for any income level,” said Maggie Downey, Compact administrator. “No one should delay in making their home more comfortable and energy efficient because they think they can’t afford it.”

Households earning 60 percent of median income or less are eligible for free home weatherization (up to a value of $4,000) if they own or rent their home and the electric bills are in their name. Housing Assistance Corporation administers this program for the Cape Light Compact.

These households will also receive free high efficiency lighting, including LEDs and CFLs, which will help to reduce their electric usage. They may also be eligible for a new energy efficient refrigerator (if existing is qualified as inefficient), fuel assistance and reduced electricity and gas rates.

Margaret, a Forestdale resident who recently had insulation and air sealing completed through the program, is pleased with the result. “I was very happy to have an energy audit because the work that was done has made a huge difference,” she said.

George, a Buzzard’s Bay resident, also has experienced increased comfort as a result of weatherization improvements made available through the program. “Despite the weather this has been the warmest winter I have spent in my home. The difference is unbelievable,” he said.

For households who earn more than 60 percent of median income, there are programs and incentives available through the Compact for weatherization and other energy saving opportunities.

The first step is to call the Compact at 1-800-797-6699 to schedule a free home energy assessment and discuss programs that are right for you.
