Cape Light Compact works with different vendors to offer comprehensive assessments and programs to businesses based on the amount of electricity (kWh) used on an annual basis. The information below is for businesses that use less than 1.5 million kWh per year. No-cost Small Business Comprehensive Assessments.
The Small Business Program provides no-cost energy assessments that offer information on energy savings measures ranging from quick low-cost improvements to longer-term upgrades on your existing building. The resulting energy action plan indicates costs and savings related to specific energy efficiency improvements.
Who is eligible?
Any business that uses less than 1.5 million kWh per year and has an active Eversource electric account may participate in this program. In addition, we have special offerings for tenants and non-profit agencies which can be found below.
How does it work?
- Call 1-800-797-6699 to sign up or click here to sign up online for a no-cost energy assessment.
- The Compact’s energy specialist will reach out to determine existing conditions at your facility to help identify potential energy savings measures. The energy specialist may complete a site visit to finalize recommendations.
- You will then receive a customized proposal outlining energy efficiency recommendations.
- Recommended improvements will be installed by our qualified vendor.
What incentives are available?
When applicable, during the assessments sites will receive the following energy savings measures at no cost:
- Efficient screw-in lamps to replace inefficient lamps
- Aerators
- Showerheads and spray valves
- Smart Strips
In addition, the following list of measures (with applicable incentives) may be assessed at the time of the assessment.

Cape Light Compact recognizes that some charitable non-profit organizations may not be able to make energy efficiency improvements to buildings that they own. The Compact is offering enhanced incentives up to 100% for recommended improvements.
Who is eligible?
- Eligible Entities
- 501(c)(3) – Religious, Educational, Charitable, Scientific, Literary, Testing for Public Safety, to Foster National or International Amateur Sports Competition, or Prevention of Cruelty to Children or Animals Organizations
- 501(c)(8) – Fraternal Beneficiary Societies and Associations
- 501(c)(10) – Domestic Fraternal Societies and Associations
- 501(c)(19) – Post or Organization of Past or Present Members of the Armed Forces
- 501(c)(23) – Veterans Organizations
- Houses of Worship
- Must be in operation for at least 1 year
- Must provide proof of their non-profit category and status
- Must provide a copy of ST-2 Certificate of Exemption
Incentives
- All recommended measures except for heat pumps are eligible for up to 100% incentive. Cape Light Compact will cover up to 50% for heat pumps displacing oil, propane, or electric resistance heating
How does it work?
- Submit required documentation via this online portal
- Staff will review the application and provide notification of acceptance (if applicable).
- An energy assessment will then be completed on your building to determine what energy efficiency opportunities may be available.
Cape Light Compact recognizes that businesses that rent their place of business may not be able to make certain energy efficiency improvements without permission from their landlords. To help make these upgrades more affordable, the Compact is offering enhanced incentives (up to 100%) to eligible renters.
Who is eligible?
- Must use less than 1,500,000 kWh annually
- Renter must be responsible for paying the heating and electricity costs
- Owner must not be affiliated with the renter, or have a stake in the renter’s business
- Attestation Form must be signed and completed by the Building Owner (this will be coordinated by lead vendor after assessment)
Incentives
- All measures except for heat pumps are eligible for up to 100% incentive. The prescriptive rebate amounts for heat pumps will be utilized.
How does it work?
- Call Cape Light Compact at 1-800-797-6699 to sign up for a no-cost energy assessment, or sign up online.
- An energy assessment will then be completed on your building to determine what energy efficiency opportunities may be available. Lead vendor will coordinate signing of Attestation Form once assessment is completed and the proposal has been developed.
Cape Light Compact, in conjunction with its vendor RISE Engineering, is offering a no-interest financing option to eligible small business customers (with annual usage less than 100,000 kWh), for qualifying energy-efficient lighting projects that have been recommended through an energy assessment. This financing is available through RISE Engineering and can be repaid in up to 12 monthly installments directly to RISE, in exchange for a reduced energy efficiency incentive.

- Obtain an application for financing from the energy specialist and complete application for eligibility review.
