What is a Home Energy Assessment?

Cape Light Compact’s No-Cost Home Energy Assessment connects you with an Energy Specialist. Your Energy Specialist will evaluate your entire home from the attic to the basement, identifying energy efficiency opportunities that we directly help you address to reduce energy usage, increase year-round comfort, and create a healthier environment for homeowners and renters alike. The Compact offers both in-person and virtual assessments.

What to Expect at the Home Energy Assessment

  • Energy Efficiency Opportunities: An Energy Specialist will conduct a comprehensive energy evaluation of your home, from the attic to the basement. The Energy Specialist will assess energy efficiency opportunities related to your home’s current air sealing and insulation levels, heating and cooling system, appliances, and clean energy resources, such as solar and battery storage. An Energy Specialist may provide you with instant energy-saving measures, such as a low-flow showerhead, faucet aerators, and advanced power strips.
  • Safety: If your home has a fuel-burning heating system or appliances, the Energy Specialist will conduct a Combustion Safety Test to ensure these are operating safely in your home.

After the Home Energy Assessment

  • Home Energy Action Report: Your Energy Specialist will provide you with a custom Home Energy Action Report outlining a roadmap to pursue the energy efficiency opportunities identified during your home energy assessment.
  • Weatherization Contract: If air sealing and insulation opportunities were identified during your home energy assessment, your Energy Specialist will provide you with a weatherization contract for your signature. Upon signature, your Energy Specialist will notify a program insulation contractor on your behalf to reach out and schedule the recommended work at a date and time that works best for you. If you prefer to use a specific contractor, you can select one of our participating contractors by using our Find a Contractor tool and indicating this contractor on your weatherization contract.
