About Housing Assistance Corporation

Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) is a non-profit organization that has been offering housing programs and services throughout Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket for the past 45 years. Their mission is two-fold: to deliver housing and services that meet the needs of our local community and limit our impact on natural resources; and to engage in responsible economic development that generates jobs, stabilizes housing and strengthens the community.

Project Summary

Keith Trott, Director of Housing Production and Maintenance at HAC, had expressed his interest in lowering their high energy usage, and increasing occupant comfort by addressing issues of inconsistent heat and poor indoor air quality. Working with RISE Engineering, they were able to implement solutions to address these issues in the 23,000 square foot building. The energy management system installed—along with other efficiency measures—allows for full control and optimization of the building’s temperature, humidity, dampers and CO2 sensors. Everything has been optimized based on demand, but can also be controlled from a thermostat, or remotely from a computer or phone. Moreover, all the existing lighting was replaced with LED fixtures, improving the space lighting and providing a better aesthetic appeal. Incentives from Mass Save Sponsors Cape Light Compact and National Grid made these projects financially feasible for this non-profit organization.
