What to Expect at the Renter Home Energy Assessment?
- Energy Efficiency Opportunities: An Energy Specialist will conduct a comprehensive energy evaluation of your home, from the attic to the basement. The Energy Specialist will assess energy efficiency opportunities related to your home’s current air sealing and insulation levels, heating and cooling system, appliances, and clean energy resources, such as solar and battery storage. An Energy Specialist may provide you with instant energy-saving measures, such as a low-flow showerhead, faucet aerators, and advanced power strips.
- Safety: If your home has a fuel-burning heating system or appliances, the Energy Specialist will conduct a Combustion Safety Test to ensure these are operating safely in your home.
Following the assessment, you’ll receive a custom Home Energy Action Report detailing:
- Information on available rebates for upgrading your appliances, thermostats, and HVAC equipment
- A proposal for 100% off on insulation upgrades. You can opt to use the recommended insulation installer provided by your energy specialist or find your own installer from our list by clicking here. Project may be contingent on landlord approval.
- Up to $5,000 for weatherization barrier mitigation, including knob and tube wiring and vermiculite. Offer valid for renter-occupied units in buildings with 2-4 units only. Single-family rentals and owner-occupied units do not qualify.
- The opportunity to apply for 0% financing through the Mass Save® HEAT for eligible upgrades
To qualify for a no-cost renter home energy assessment you must have an active Eversource electric account on Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard. These assessments are available for existing residences.
