Enroll your smart thermostat in ConnectedSolutions to earn incentives and help the grid!
Hot summer days are when New England’s electrical grid faces its highest demand, driving up energy and infrastructure costs for everyone. You can make a difference by enrolling in Cape Light Compact’s ConnectedSolutions thermostat program!
If you have one of the below WiFi thermostat models connected to central air conditioning, you can sign up for the ConnectedSolutions thermostat program to earn up to $70 in incentives while helping to reduce the strain on the electrical grid, without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You’ll receive a $50 Amazon e-gift card* per thermostat for enrolling, and another $20 Amazon e-gift card** per thermostat per season for participating.
When you participate, Cape Light Compact will make brief, limited adjustments to your WiFi thermostat’s setpoint during periods of high electric demand from June 1 through September 30 of each year – these adjustment periods are called demand response (“DR”) events. DR events will be 3 hours long, and will generally occur between the hours of 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will be a maximum of 15 DR events per season, and no DR events will occur on weekends or holidays.
Prior to a DR event, your thermostat will precool your home or building to maintain your comfort during the 3-hour event window. Once the event starts, your thermostat’s setpoint will be adjusted upwards by 4 degrees from its current temperature setting for the duration of the DR event.
Your participation in DR events is voluntary, and you will always retain control of your thermostat. You can override the thermostat adjustments at any time from your mobile device, web browser, or thermostat. By overriding the thermostat adjustments during the DR event period, or opting out of the precooling period prior to the start of the DR event, you will be considered to have opted out of participating in the event. If at the end of the summer season, a customer participated in less than 25% of the events, they may be unenrolled from the program and forfeit future incentives.
There are environmental attributes, or Clean Peak Energy Credits (CPECs), associated with your participation in ConnectedSolutions events. These are assigned to the Mass Save Sponsors and their partners, which helps the Sponsors meet their legal requirements under the Massachusetts Clean Peak Standard. This has no effect on your participation incentives.
*Income-eligible customers on an R-2 rate will receive a $100 enrollment incentive.
**Small and medium-sized businesses on a G-1 or G-2 will receive a $200 enrollment incentive
