People could face much higher bills than last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Chill Your Bill Campaign<\/em> will build on the Compact\u2019s regional Energy Efficiency Program. \u201cWe have many ways that consumers can start saving on their heating and electric bills,\u201d Downey said. \u201cWe\u2019re expanding our information and outreach efforts to make people aware of the immediate actions they can take for energy efficiency. We will distribute and publicize the easy things people can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To start saving, consumers should visit our website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill\">www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill<\/a> for low cost ways to begin reducing energy consumption in their home. We also encourage people to sign up for our newsletter at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/newsletter\">www.capelightcompact.org\/newsletter<\/a> or like us on Facebook at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CapeLightEnergy\">www.facebook.com\/CapeLightEnergy<\/a> to stay informed about what is available. In addition, to help consumers identify where and how they can save energy, Cape Light Compact offers free energy assessments to both residential and business consumers. Benefits of a home energy assessment include: free qualified energy efficient lighting, free air leak sealing, as well as weatherization incentives (the standard incentive is 75% up to $4,000). Additional rebates may be available to help reduce the cost of other improvements or equipment noted in the energy assessment.<\/p>\n<p>The energy assessment is performed by an energy specialist who visits a home or business, and compiles a list of recommendations for suggested improvements along with estimated costs and savings. \u201cThe assessment process starts with a simple phone call,\u201d said Margaret Song, Compact Residential Program Manager. \u201cWe have had a high demand for assessments as more and more Cape and Vineyard residents become aware of the benefits, but, we\u2019re working to reduce times by increasing the number of assessments we\u2019re performing every week. People can do the immediate actions while they are waiting.\u201d Song urged people to visit the Compact website (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill\">www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill<\/a>) to see the list of cost-reducing incentives and rebates available.<\/p>\n<p>The Compact\u2019s first outreach effort is being planned with the Town of Sandwich Energy Committee on Thursday, October 9<sup>th<\/sup> at 7pm at the Sandwich Human Services Building. The Compact will be making a presentation on why electricity prices are increasing and what consumers can do to save energy and money on their energy bills. The Compact is working with each towns\u2019 energy committee, and consumers can check with their town to see when the Compact\u2019s presentation is scheduled for, or they may visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill\">www.capelightcompact.org\/chillyourbill<\/a> for a list of presentations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <em>Chill Your Bill Campaign<\/em> is a special effort,\u201d Downey said, \u201cbut high energy pricing is expected to continue in New England for the next few winters. It\u2019s important that people start now to improve their energy efficiency and reduce bills.
