{"id":12302,"date":"2010-05-06T14:25:01","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T18:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/test-post-2-2-2\/"},"modified":"2010-05-06T14:25:01","modified_gmt":"2010-05-06T18:25:01","slug":"test-post-2-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capelightcompact.org\/pt-br\/test-post-2-2-2\/","title":{"rendered":"05-06-10 Local Schools Win National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project 2010 Youth Awards for Energy Achievement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Local Schools Win National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project 2010 Youth Awards for Energy Achievement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnstable<\/strong><strong>, MA, May 6, 2010<\/strong> \u2013 Several Cape Cod schools that participate in Cape Light Compact\u2019s Energy Education Program have been honored with a 2010 Youth Award for Energy Achievement by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project for their outstanding energy projects and community outreach efforts.<\/p>\n<p>On a yearly basis, NEED conducts a search to identify the most outstanding energy projects developed through their school-based energy education programs.\u00a0 Participating schools from across the country send their energy projects to NEED for review by a National Awards Review Panel composed of leaders from the energy, education, and government sectors.\u00a0 In April, this year\u2019s Panel chose winning projects from more than 60 entries that had previously been judged <em>Best in State<\/em> by NEED\u2019s regional and state offices.\u00a0 Winners will be honored at a National Recognition Ceremony in Washington, DC on Monday, June 28, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a pleasure to lend support to these talented and thoughtful individuals over the course of this past school year,\u201d said Deborah Shiflett-Fitton, Cape Light Compact\u2019s Education Coordinator.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s also encouraging to watch this hard-working group of teachers and students successfully educate their communities about the importance of energy conservation and awareness of renewable energy resources.\u201d<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cape Light Compact\u2019s Energy Education Program, in partnership with NEED, reaches many Cape and Vineyard schools and supports teachers in their efforts to bring the world of energy efficiency, energy conservation, the science of energy and renewable energy to their students.\u00a0 Through the \u201ckids teaching kids\u201d model, students are engaged in energy education outreach through classroom activities, energy clubs and community events.\u00a0 Teacher in-service workshops, educational kits, materials and guest speakers are available free of charge as part of the Compact\u2019s commitment to help shape an energy literate society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2010 NEED Youth Award for Energy Achievement Winners:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>National and State Senior Level School of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sandwich High School Environmental Tech Renewable Energy Team &#8211; Gil Newton, advisor<\/p>\n<p><strong>National Elementary Level Finalist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eastham Elementary Green Energy Army &#8211; Maggie Brown, advisor<\/p>\n<p><strong>State<\/strong><strong> Junior Level School<\/strong><strong> of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School Roots and Shoots Club \u2013 Paul Niles, advisor<\/p>\n<p><strong>State Rookie of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nauset Regional High School\u2019s Green Team \u2013 Valerie Bell, advisor<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cape<\/strong><strong> Light<\/strong><strong> Compact would like to congratulate all of our schools for their hard work in energy education and community outreach.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About NEED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NEED Project is a nonprofit organization with programs in all 50 states. NEED has developed innovative materials and implemented programs that not only teach about energy, but also develop leadership and critical thinking skills.
