Cape Light Compact Programs Help Transform Mezza Luna Restaurant into a Big Energy Saver<\/strong><\/p>\n

Landmark Restaurant Recognized for Its Commitment to Achieving Significant Energy Savings<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

BARNSTABLE, MA, April 14, 2010 \u2013 After a devastating fire in 2007, Mezza Luna owner E.J. Cubellis was determined to rebuild a bigger \u2013 and highly energy efficient \u2013 restaurant on the same site as the original landmark in Buzzard\u2019s Bay, MA.<\/p>\n

Cubellis recognized that the costs associated with energy usage comprise a significant percentage of the restaurant’s annual expenses, so he contacted Cape Light Compact during the initial design phase to investigate what energy efficient measures and incentives were available to help him boost savings.<\/p>\n

Cubellis decided on a series of measures that will save him over $11,000 a year on his electric bill<\/strong>, while reducing the overall electric usage by about 53,000 kWh annually.\u00a0 That\u2019s the equivalent of CO2<\/sub> emissions saved from 1,586 propane cylinders used for home barbeques.\u00a0 Cape Light Compact contributed $7,329 in incentives toward highly efficient lighting, occupancy sensors, premium efficiency motors, economizer and air conditioning unit, and a heat-deflecting white roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe standout result of the Mezza Luna project is that the customer is totally satisfied,\u201d said Vicki Marchant, a Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program Analyst at Cape Light Compact.<\/p>\n

On March 31, 2010, the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) recognized Mezza Luna Restaurant as a \u2018Business Leader for Energy Efficiency’ at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Boston, MA. Nominated by National Grid and Cape Light Compact, the company is being honored for its continued efforts to advance energy efficiency.<\/p>\n
