Falmouth Ice Arena to Receive Energy Efficiency Award<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cape Light Compact\u2019s Program Helps Achieve Phenomenal Energy Savings<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Falmouth, MA<\/strong> – When the new <\/span><\/span><\/span>Falmouth Ice Arena<\/span><\/a> opened its doors in 2012, it was a state-of-the-art skating facility designed to meet the community\u2019s growing demand for ice time. Now, after only two years of operation, the Arena is being recognized for its outstanding energy efficiency performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFalmouth Ice Arena is considered to be one of the most energy efficient facilities of its kind in the country,\u201d said Maggie Downey, <\/span>Cape Light Compact<\/span><\/a> Administrator.\u00a0 \u201cThe success the Arena has had saving energy and money, demonstrates the foresight of the Arena\u2019s development and management team, and the value Cape Light Compact\u2019s programs can add to businesses investing in new facilities on the Cape and Vineyard.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Compact nominated the Arena\u2019s owners, Falmouth Youth Hockey, Inc., to be honored by the <\/span>Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships<\/span><\/a> (NEEP) as the Compact\u2019s 2014 \u2018Northeast Business Leader for Energy Efficiency.\u2019 The award, to be presented at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in June, is for the Arena\u2019s success in advancing energy efficiency in the rink\u2019s design and operations. The Arena\u2019s energy efficiency measures have seen annual energy savings of over 500,000 kWh, and annual cost savings of more than $85,000.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe energy savings are phenomenal,\u201d said Paul Moore, Falmouth Youth Hockey, adding that \u201cthis means more money can be spent on programs that directly benefit the community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moore said the organization\u2019s development team began working with Cape Light Compact in 2010 to identify incentives for energy efficient design.\u00a0 The Compact awarded $243,410 in incentives for above-code energy efficiency measures, such as: lighting and controls, refrigeration and building shell measures. \u201cThe Compact worked with us from the very beginning to help us identify ways we could save,\u201d Moore said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored to be receiving this award from NEEP,\u201d Moore, said, adding \u201cwe are proud to serve the community as an ice arena, and now also as a model for environmental stewardship.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Falmouth Ice Arena<\/span><\/a> is a skating facility owned by Falmouth Youth Hockey, Inc. a 501 c 3. The rink is open to the regional hockey and skating groups and the general public during scheduled hours.\u00a0 The rink is located on Technology Park Drive off of Thomas B. Landers Road in East Falmouth.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
