South Yarmouth, MA\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Cape Light Compact has set the electricity supply rates for its municipal aggregation power supply program for the upcoming pricing term. The new residential rates will be 16.580 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for residential customers and 16.466 cents per kWh for commercial customers. The new rates begin with the July 2026 meter read dates through January 2027 meter read dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Compact\u2019s new residential pricing is just under one cent per kWh lower than Eversource\u2019s recently announced Basic Service supply pricing that will begin on August 1st<\/sup>. The average Compact customer using 600 kWh per month could receive a bill that is approximately $4.50 less on the supply side than a customer on Eversource\u2019s August Basic Service rate. Despite being below Basic Service, the Compact\u2019s new rate is over two cents per kWh higher than the current rate. This increase is due in part to the very cold weather New England experienced this past winter and to the conflict in Iran, both of which have driven up power prices. Because New England is reliant on natural gas for both heating and electricity generation, an increase in natural gas prices due to global uncertainty and supply chain disruptions impacts power prices. This is especially true for the winter months (of which January is included in this pricing term) because New England has a limited capacity of natural gas pipelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cape Light Compact power supply customers should see this price reflected on the electric utility bills that they receive in August. If you are unsure whether you are on the Compact\u2019s supply, check the \u201cSupply\u201d section of your most recent electric bill. If the supplier is listed as NextEra Energy Services, you are enrolled in the Compact\u2019s supply program. If you have a different supplier and wish to switch to the Compact\u2019s supply, customers may do so by calling 1-800-381-9192.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Compact, the Cape and Vineyard\u2019s Sponsor of Mass Save\u00ae, offers significant rebates on insulation, air sealing, heat pumps, and other upgrades to make buildings more efficient and comfortable for all seasons. Residential and commercial customers, including renters, can begin with a no-cost Energy Assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities and qualify for incentives on efficiency upgrades.  Additionally, income-qualified customers may receive incentives of up to 100% of the cost of weatherization and other upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith continued uncertainty in the energy market, the most effective way to reduce the impact of rising costs is to participate in the Compact\u2019s energy efficiency programs. These programs have a proven track record of helping customers reduce their energy usage,\u201d says Margaret Song, the Compact\u2019s Chief Administrative Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many resources for customers who need assistance paying their energy bills. Customers can explore billing and payment options including gas and electric discount rates, fuel assistance, and arrearage forgiveness programs. Cape Light Compact Power Supply Pricing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the standard renewable power supply product, the Compact offers two CLC Local Green\u2120 options. CLC Local Green\u2120 allows customers to choose to have 50 or 100% of their electricity use matched with additional Massachusetts Class 1 RECs. These RECs allow for customers\u2019 electricity usage to be matched with certificates from renewable energy generated in New England. While the standard power supply program helps directly finance new renewable energy projects, CLC Local Green\u2120 goes above and beyond to provide additional support for local renewable energy development in New England. Pricing for CLC Local Green\u2120  50 includes a premium of 1.0 cent per kWh above the standard power supply price, and CLC Local Green\u2120 100 includes a premium of 3.0 cents per kWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Compact\u2019s new commercial rate for July 2026 meter read dates through January 2027 meter read dates will be 16.466 cents per kWh, and the industrial rate for the period of July 2026 meter read dates through October 2026 meter reads dates will be 11.548 cents per kWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
