Comprehensive Assessments for Existing Buildings

Cape Light Compact works with different vendors to offer comprehensive assessments and programs to businesses based upon the amount of electricity (kWh) used on an annual basis.

Small Businesses - using less than 100,000 kWh per year

The Small Business Program provides free energy assessments that offer information on energy savings measures ranging from quick low-cost improvements, to longer term upgrades on your existing building. The resulting energy action plan indicates costs and savings related to specific energy efficiency improvements.

Who is eligible?

Any business that uses less than 100,000 kWh per year and has an active Eversource electric account may participate in this program. In addition, we 463A3157have special offerings for tenants and non-profit agencies which can be found below.

How does it work?

  1. Call 1-800-797-6699 to sign up for a free comprehensive energy assessment of your building.
  2. The Compact’s energy specialist will visit your building, evaluate to see what energy efficient improvements could be made and then produce a report of any recommended measures.

What incentives are available?

When applicable, during the assessments sites will receive the following energy savings measures at no cost:

  • Efficient screw-in lamps to replace inefficient lamps
  • Aerators
  • Showerheads and spray valves
  • Smart strips

In addition, the following list of measures (with applicable incentives) may be assessed at the time of the assessment.

Non-Profit Offer

Cape Light Compact recognizes that some charitable non-profit organizations may not be able to make energy efficiency improvements to buildings that they own. The Compact is offering enhanced incentives up to 100% for recommended improvements to 100 eligible non-profits per year for 2016-2018.

Who is eligible?

  • Non-profit must own the building or have an eligible long-term lease. Please contact Cape Light Compact for details.
  • Non-profit must provide a copy of charitable 501(c)3 status and have been in operation for at least 5 years on Cape Cod and/or Martha’s Vineyard
  • Annual electric usage for all accounts on the site did not exceed 100,000 kWh in the prior twelve months, and the active electric account must be in the non-profit’s name
  • Non-profit must provide documentation for the applicable category:
    • Unrestricted Annual Operating Revenue of less than $15 million for:
      • Organizational purpose to provide service to low-income (defined as up to 60% of state median income) population
    • Unrestricted Annual Operating Revenue of less than $2 million for: Organizational purpose to provide one of the following:
      • Promotion and advancement of economic development
      • Social services that are open to all members of the public
      • Cultural services that increase access to arts, science, history and heritage
  • Please note that customers that qualify for this enhanced incentive cannot participate in the financing option through Cape Light Compact.

How does it work?

  1. Fill out the application and send the completed form and information to Cape Light Compact (mailing and email info on form).
  2. Staff will review the application and provide notification of acceptance (if applicable).
  3. An energy assessment will then be completed on your building to determine what energy efficiency opportunities may be available.
Tenant Offer

Cape Light Compact recognizes that micro businesses that rent their place of business may not be able to make energy efficiency improvements. To help make these upgrades more affordable, the Compact is offering enhanced incentives (up to 95%) to eligible tenants.

Who is eligible?

  • Annual electric usage for all accounts on the site does not exceed 30,000 kWh in the prior 12 months, and the electric account must be in the tenant’s name.
  • An energy assessment has been completed within the last 12 months. If you have not had an assessment, please call the Compact at 1-800-797-6699 to sign up.
  • Business must have occupied its current location for more than 12 months (36 months if the lease is now month to month).
  • Business must have 12 months or more remaining on its current lease (if applicable).
  • The business must be an unrelated party to the owner of the building except for its relationship as a tenant. Both the tenant and the building owner must execute the application.
  • Note: Customers that qualify for this incentive cannot participate in the financing option offered through Cape Light Compact.

How does it work?

  1. Call Cape Light Compact at 1-800-797-6699 to sign up for a free energy assessment, or to indicate your interest in the enhanced incentive if you have already have an assessment.
  2. At the time of the assessment receive an application that will need to be completed to confirm incentive level.
Financing Offer

Cape Light Compact, in conjunction with its vendor RISE Engineering, is offering a no-interest financing option to eligible small business customers (with annual usage less than 100,000 kWh or less), to make energy efficiency improvements that have been recommended through an energy assessment. This financing is available through RISE Engineering, and can be repaid in up to 12 monthly installments directly to RISE.

How does it work?

  1. Call 1-800-797-6699 to schedule a free energy assessment of your building.
  2. Obtain application for financing from energy specialist and complete application for eligibility review.

Medium Businesses - using more than 100,000 kWh up to 1.5 million kWh per year

The Medium Business Cape Light New Building & Liberty Commons-1030Program is designed to provide comprehensive information, energy assessments and energy efficiency incentives in an effort to assist and encourage customers to retrofit their existing businesses with cost-effective energy efficient measures by industry segment (grocery, restaurant, hotel/motel, etc.). However any medium commercial customer who contacts the Compact for an assessment will be served, regardless of type.

Who is eligible?

Any business that uses between 100,001 kWh and 1.5 million kWh per year is eligible to participate in the medium business program. We also have specific packages for businesses in the grocery (which also includes convenience and liquor stores) and hospitality (restaurant and lodging) industry segments. How does it work?

  1. Call 1-800-797-6699 to sign up for a free comprehensive energy assessment of your building.

Large Businesses- using more than 1.5 million kWh per year

The Large Commercial & Industrial Program is designed to provide the Compact’s largest private sector, non-municipal government, and chain/franchise customers the tools needed to develop and achieve long-term energy efficiency goals. Technical assistance services and incentives are available for qualified projects.

Multi-Family Facilities - Properties with 5 or more residential units

The Multi-Family program is designed to provide information and incentivized energy efficiency solutions for both the Residential and Commercial Multi-Family Condominiums 1areas of an apartment or condominium property. Recommendations produced by comprehensive whole-property assessments motivate property owners and tenants alike to make their spaces more energy efficient, and measures may include weatherization, interior and exterior lighting, and water-saving products. Many of the recommended improvements may be offered at no-cost, and there may be generous incentives available for other recommended measures. Properties heated by electricity, propane, oil, or natural gas are all eligible for participation in the program.

Municipal - Existing Town or County Properties

BuildingUnique through the Cape Light Compact, for Municipal customers (defined as the towns within Barnstable and Dukes Counties as well as the Counties themselves), we offer enhanced incentives to increase the implementation of all cost-effective energy efficiency measures. These incentives include up to 100% of the incremental cost of upgrades for cost-effective replacement of failed or new equipment and up to 100% of the total cost for cost-effective replacement of working equipment. This applies to all non-natural gas measures that are recommended and/or validated by one of our contracted vendors.

There is a cap per project, and if that is triggered, the Cape Light Compact Governing Board will vote on whether to proceed with those projects.
