Three One-Day Events Offer Customers $30 for Recycling Old, Working Dehumidifiers

Barnstable, MA (June 1, 2017) — Recycling your old, inefficient dehumidifier and upgrading to an ENERGY STAR® certified model is a simple way to beat the humidity without wasting energy. Certified models use over 25% less energy than non-certified dehumidifiers. The savings is even more if you have an older unit that doesn’t pull moisture from the air as effectively as it used to, which means by upgrading you’ll better protect your home from dampness while also saving on energy costs.

This June, Cape Light Compact is partnering with local appliance stores on Cape Cod to offer residential electric customers on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard a $30 rebate for recycling old, working dehumidifiers.1 To be eligible, customers must turn in a dehumidifier at one of the three events listed below. Only two dehumidifiers per residential electric account will receive a rebate.

Saturday June 24, 2017 10:00am – 2:00pm Crane Appliance 136 Route 6A, Orleans, MA 02360

“Not only will replacing these old appliances save on household energy consumption, but residents will be able to dispose of these bulky appliances in an environmentally responsible way,” says Maggie Downey of Cape Light Compact. Dehumidifiers contain refrigerant, which can be a greenhouse gas and ozone-depleting substance. Recycling old dehumidifiers both ensures the refrigerant is safely handled, preventing it from polluting the ground and air, and keeps recyclable metal and plastic out of landfills.

To take advantage of this limited-time program, customers must:

  1. Bring an old, working dehumidifier to one of these three events.
  2. Leave the dehumidifier with event staff to recycle.
  3. Obtain a rebate form from event staff. This form can be completed on-site and left with event staff, completed at home and submitted by mail, or completed online and submitted at MassSave.com/Savings. (You can speed up the process by bringing a copy of your electric bill to the event and handing it in with your rebate form to event staff).
  4. Receive a $30 VISA® prepaid card in the mail approximately four to six weeks after the rebate form is submitted.

As an added benefit, customers who choose to purchase a new ENERGY STAR® certified dehumidifier may be eligible for an additional $30 rebate if they purchase that qualifying unit by December 31, 2017. 1 To be considered working, dehumidifiers must turn on when plugged in. The Cape Light Compact is planning additional turn-in events for September on Martha’s Vineyard.
