Real Time Energy Monitoring Available to Solar, Wind Customers

Cape Light Compact Offers Free Program to Renewable Energy Customers

Barnstable, MA – Homes and businesses with solar photovoltaic (PV) or small residential wind systems on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard are now eligible to participate in a program that can help them shave even more off their electric bills. Cape Light Compact’s program allows participants to use their smartphone to monitor the amount of power being generated by their renewable energy system in real time, while also tracking their home energy use.

“The idea is that making consumers more aware of how they use energy gives them the knowledge they need to make small adjustments in their behavior that can help them conserve energy and save money,” said Maggie Downey, Compact Administrator.

The Compact launched its home energy monitoring program last year, but previously the program was not available to customers with solar PV or small wind systems. Interest in the monitoring program expressed by owners of renewable energy systems prompted the Compact to work with their vendor to design a monitoring suite compatible with solar PV and small residential wind systems.

Qualified participants will receive free software, hardware, and professional installation. The program uses an award winning application compatible with iOS or Android smartphones and Internet access. Professional installation is provided by a Massachusetts-licensed electrician. Participants are allowed to keep the equipment as long as they like.

Eligible residential and commercial participants must live or have a business on Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard, and have an active residential or commercial Eversource electric account with more than 6 months of usage per year. They must have access to their electric meter and be willing to have a monitor installed on it, and a Wi-Fi router that is always on. There is no cost to participate.
