When you choose Cape Light Compact GreenSM, you will match 50% or 100% of the electricity you use each month with renewable energy sources from solar, wind, small hydro and landfill gas – all of which can dramatically reduce air pollution and environmental damage. It costs just a few extra cents each day to help us build a market for cleaner, healthier, local energy projects. Plus 100% of the premium you pay for Cape Light Compact GreenSM is tax deductible!
What are the Benefits?
SUPPORT NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY
25% of the renewable energy sources in our green program are “new” (built after 1997). Supporting new resources is the best way to drive development of future renewable energy projects.
SUPPORT LOCAL RENEWABLE ENERGY
Our program includes renewable energy from photovoltaic (PV) systems on rooftops across Cape Cod, small hydro facilities from across New England, and landfill gas from a closed landfill in Chicopee, MA. Over time, it is the Compact’s intention to incorporate wind from land-based projects in Massachusetts, particularly those in Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard towns.
A CHOICE THAT BENEFITS YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY
When you pay a premium for Cape Light Compact GreenSM, 100% of the premium you pay is deductible from your federal income taxes if you itemize. The premium is the difference between the price of the Cape Light Compact GreenSM 100% (or Cape Light Compact GreenSM 50%) and the price for Cape Light Compact basic energy service.
