The historic Dan'l Webster Inn has stood in Sandwich, MA for approximately 300 years, accommodating guests and providing fine dining and recreation. With the aid of the Cape Light Compact, this old building received some much needed energy-efficiency improvements. The hallways, walkways and other public areas at this Inn were previously illuminated using standard incandescent bulbs. After surveying these bulbs, the staff at the Cape Light Compact was able to provide energy-efficient replacements in the form of compact fluorescents. Theses bulbs replaced everything from outdoor flood lights to bulbs in lamps to tiny flame-shaped chandelier bulbs, thereby providing considerable savings in both energy and money. In addition to these savings, the Dan'l Webster Inn was able to participate in incentives that the Cape Light Compact offers to encourage business to participate in energy-efficiency upgrades.
These new bulbs will last up to 10 years and will provide 5,676 kWh in combined savings over their lifetime. More data about project costs and improvements can be found in the table below. The partnership between the Dan'l Webster Inn and the Cape Light Compact has helped to make the Inn more efficient while preserving the historic look and feel of the 300-year-old building.
